An accident between an Indian Naval boat and a ferry on the Coast of Mumbai has claimed the lives of four naval soldiers, and another in critical condition while ten other passengers of the ferry were also killed in the accident and two others in critical condition.
According to a press release by the Indian Naval Command the Naval boat collided with the ferry which led it to capsize with the 110 passengers onboard it including 20 children.
The Naval Command also said four separate operations which included eight naval crafts have commenced in a search and rescue mission to help recover missing bodies.
Confirming the awful incident Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra disclosed that the Naval boat had an engine failure and ran into the ferry on Wednesday evening.
The naval craft was undertaking engine trials on the Coast of Mumbai to avoid engine malfunction while on missions.
As of 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 101 people had been rescued in the ongoing rescue operations. The Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and police deployed 11 crafts and four helicopters for the rescue operation.
Droupadi Murmu, the President of India has expressed condolences for the death of the people that died in the Mumbai Boat accident near the Gateway of India.
Prime Minister Modi has also expressed his grief and has related with Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to provide an ex-gratia of of Rs 5 lakh ($5,800) to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident
