The citizens of San Juan Amecac County took laws into their own hands when they caught three men accused of robbing a lady of her belongings at a roadside. The men were beaten and hung up over a bridge till they gave up the ghost.
The incident which was confirmed in a statement issued by the local government of San Juan Amecac said that “Three men died after being detained and lynched by residents for the alleged robbery and kidnapping of a minor.”
The police responded to the incident late to save the lives of the victims who were lynched by over 300 people. The police said when they arrived at the scene the men appeared to show no signs of life in their bodies.
Lynching has drastically increased in Mexico in recent years since the rise of crime and violence has increased dramatically due to the rise in cartel violence.
In June, four men were lynched and then burned in the nearby city of Atlixco by a crowd that accused them of stealing a vehicle.
Also in March, a woman was lynched and killed by the people who accused her of murdering an 8-year-old girl, while two men who were also involved in the murder were able to escape.
In 2022, a political adviser was lynched and burned to death over the allegations of child trafficking shared via a chat group.
However, an awful incident happened in 2018 when two innocent men were lynched and burned to ashes over a false allegation that they were child abductors. The case drew widespread condemnation but no one was prosecuted for the crime.
Mexico has witnessed a surge in violence since the beginning of the year with different cartel clashes and public executions of political figures.
