Michigan Federal Court has sentenced two Nigerian men to 210 months imprisonment each for their involvement in an illegal sexual exploitation and extortion scheme which led to the death of 17 year old Jordan Demay by suicide.
Michigan authorities say that in 2022 Jordan sent explicit images of himself to someone he believed was a lady but was unaware that he had sent his explicit photos to Nigerian fraudsters and was blackmailed to pay them $1000 to keep his private pictures off the internet.
Jordan Demay committed suicide in March 2022 out of frustration over his inability to raise the requested payment of $1000 which prompted the FBI office in Michigan to swing into action and investigate the mystery surrounding his death which led them to find the Two Nigerian brothers Samuel and Samson Ogoshi who were in the business of buying hacked Instagram accounts to deceive both adult men and underage boys into sending explicit images.
The unsuspecting victims who fall into the scheme will be threatened by brothers that they will release their explicit photographs to their families and friends if they don’t comply and pay the required amount. The FBI gathered that the brothers have tried to extort money from over hundred victims of relationship scams.
Jordan was a graduating senior at Marquette Senior High School, he was a member of both football and basketball teams. The culprit brothers were extradited from Nigeria to the U.S. in August 2023 and were sentenced to 17 years and six months each and they are likely to face an additional sentence of up to 30 years.
Jordan committed suicide by shooting himself within six hours after he found he was being blackmailed with his explicit photos. His mother revealed that she made it her life’s mission to share her son’s story with the world hoping it would help save another unsuspecting child.
She said “ “Financial sextortion is the fastest growing crime amongst our teenagers and change will happen when someone is held accountable for what’s happening to these kids.”.
Prodesq gathered that there is a third suspect in the case but is currently appealing his own extradition, according to U.S. authorities.
