Tragedy struck in the city of Guerro, Mexico, when the newly appointed Mayor of the city of Chilpancingo was found decapitated on Sunday, six days after he took over office.

Alejandro Arcos, 43, the body was found inside his white pickup truck with his head placed on top of the truck while he was on a visit around the vicinity of Chilpancingo to examine the level of destruction of Hurricane John.

Confirming the awful incident is Gov. Evelyn Salgado, the governor of Guerro, said “His loss mourns the entire Guerrero society and fills us with indignation,”.

The state Attorney General of Guerro’s office released a statement assuring the citizens of Guerro that a thorough investigation is underway to unravel the misery and the culprits behind the death of Alejandro Arco.

The assassination of the Mayor of Chilpancingo makes it the second death three days after the new city government’s secretary, Francisco Tapia, was shot to death.

Senator Alejandro Moreno, who is the head of Mexico’s PRI political party took to his social media page to express his thoughts, he said “They were young and honest officials who sought progress for their community,”. He further urged the federal attorney general’s office to lead the investigation into Arcos and Tapia’s murders.

Guerro, which is located in the southwestern part of Mexico has been plagued with gang-related violence which has left many people dead including politicians and journalists.

Prodesq gathered that six who ran for public office were assassinated in Mexico’s election held on June 2.

The Chilpancingo crime scene is controlled by two rival drug gangs, the Ardillos and the Tlacos.

The rivalry of the gang besieged the city last year when the Ardillos gang members rained terror on the city after two of its leaders were arrested by the federal police, there was a standoff between security forces and the Ardillos members till their leaders were released.

It was gathered that the former mayor of

Chilpancingo, Norma Otilia Hernández, was caught on video allegedly holding a meeting with leaders of the gangs of Ardillos and Tlacos at a restaurant.

The incident led to her being subsequently expelled from her party, which gave Alejandro Arcos the opportunity to run for office
