Israeli Golani Brigade Reconnaissance Team killed by Hezbollah militants

As the war rages on between Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon border., Israel has lost five soldiers and dozens wounded in Friday battle.

The Israeli military released the names of the fallen soldiers as company commander Maj. Ofek Bachar, 24, from Nes Ziona; team commander Capt. Elad Siman Tov, 23, from Tzofim; squad leader Staff Sgt. Elyashiv Eitan Wieder, 22, from Jerusalem; Staff Sgt. Yakov Hillel, 21, from Jerusalem; and Staff Sgt. Yehudah Dror Yahalom, 21, from Hebron.

The Israeli military said the soldiers were all part of Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit and were killed in a ground assault in southern Lebanon and also disclosed that the family of the fallen soldiers have been notified of the demise of their loved ones.

Series of battles between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon also left Israeli soldiers wounded in another part of the southern border region of Lebanon.

The statement by the Israeli Defense Ministry said an officer and two combat engineers from the Etzioni Brigade’s 8173rd Battalion were seriously injured, as was another soldier from the battalion’s logistical unit and the injuries came from an anti-tank missile strike.

The IDF has also confirmed that the wounded soldiers have been evacuated from the battlefront and taken to hospitals in Haffia and other parts of Israel.

However, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagar, the Israeli Defense Forces spokesman, said Golani soldiers captured Hezbollah operatives during the battle in which the five troops were killed.

Hezbollah has declared a new phase of military operations against Israel in a statement released by the Lebanese terrorist organization, it said “announces a transition to a new and escalatory phase in the confrontation with the Israeli enemy, which will be reflected in the developments and events of the coming days.”

The statement which was released in the wake of the death of Hamas leader Hahyah Sinwar by Israeli forces, Hezbollah said “hundreds of fighters…are fully prepared to counter any Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanese villages,… to escalate day by day, with precision-guided one being deployed for the first time.”
