China has upscaled the intensity of preparation of an invasion of Taiwan with new military drills which involves increasing aircraft and ships presence near the Taiwan border.

China claims that the military drills are aimed to purnish the Taiwan president for his speech on its National Day.

The military drill, which was called Joint Sword-2024B, began in the early hours of  Monday and was regarded as a warning to Taiwan against any attempt to separate itself from mainland China.

Captain Li Xi, the spokesman for the Chinese military’s Eastern Theatre Command, revealed that the military drills were aimed to ensure war readiness of the Chinese forces.

He said “sea-air combat-readiness patrol, blockade on key ports and areas”,  Li Xi also reiterated that there would be exercises on maritime attacks and ground invasions.

The captain also indicated that China’s military drills were needed and legitimate; he said  “it was a legitimate and necessary operation for safeguarding state sovereignty and national unity”.

However, Taiwan Ministry of Defense has said in a statement that it condemned China’s military aggression against the Island, it said  “dispatched appropriate forces to respond accordingly to protect freedom and democracy, and defend the sovereignty”  of their territory.

The ministry also said a  record number of 125 aircraft were spotted, while 90 entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone and also detected 17 military ships and 17 coast guard ships also entered restricted waters around Taiwan’s outer islands.

William Lai Ching-te, the president of Taiwan reiterated his commitment to defend the sovereignty of the country.

The president took to his Facebook account and said “I would like to reassure my compatriots that the government will continue to defend the democratic and free constitutional system, protect democratic Taiwan, and safeguard national security”.

However, China has not ruled out the possibility of the use of force to bring back Taiwan as a part of China.
