China and India have reached an agreement over the terms of partnership for Line of Actual Control (LAC) border patrol between the two countries.

He further added that “As a result of the discussions that have taken place over the last several weeks an agreement has been arrived at on patrolling arrangements along the line of actual control in the India-China border area and this is leading to dis-engagement and eventually a resolution of the issues that had arisen in these areas in 2020,”

The foreign secretary said that negotiations between the two countries have been ongoing secretly for over several weeks but that a compromise was reached today which would bring stability and ease to the tension between the two countries.

The agreement came after both countries had a conflict over border control in May 2020 and escalated tensions in July of the same year which led to the deaths of twenty Indian soldiers and four Chinese servicemen.

The agreement included the patrolling arrangements in the Depsang and Demchok areas.

Prodesq political analysts Temitope Oladeji, said that the agreement came into being a day after India Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Russia in preparation for the upcoming BRIC summit meeting in Kazan. The meeting of the Prime Minister with the Russian president would have played an important factor in the agreement between India and China.
