Things took a different turn after a deadly flood from torrential rain fell and swept through the country killing over 200 people in the process and leaving destruction in its wake.
The incident is regarded as the most deadly natural disaster that has ever happened in the country in over a decade.
King Felipe VI of Spain decided to take a condolence visit to the flood-devastated region and relate with the victims but his visit was not warmly received by the people.
The people were infuriated by the government’s response to their plight and did not hold back their grievances and attacked the king and his entourage.
King Felipe was with Pedro Sánchez , the Spanish prime minister, and also in attendance was Carlos Mazón, the regional president of Valencia.
The King visited the people of Paiporta, the most affected area where 60 people were killed by the flood and he was met by an angry and devastated crowd who threw rotten eggs and mud at him as a sign of protest against the ill-treatment by the Spanish government.
The crowd shouted “Killers” at the king and his entourage in video footage reviewed by Prodesq.
Prodesq gathered that the angry crowd accused the Prime Minister and the regional president of Valencia of raising awareness of the flood until it was too late to evacuate.
More soldiers were sent to the flood-affected region after an initial thousand troops were deployed to help in the search and rescue operations but the fear of conflict between the people and the government officials made the Spanish authority deploy more troops.
With several roads leading into the Valencia region closed to vehicles, many volunteers decided to walk, carrying brooms, rakes, and buckets.
Thousands of people crossed the bridge to Paiporta, where mud still clogged the streets after a river burst its banks.
