United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Friday morning has disclosed that a joint military operation with the Iraqi military against ISIS jihadists was conducted on Thursday night and has left 15 ISIS militants killed while six American soldiers suffered serious injuries.

While disclosing this information on Centcom’s X page, it was revealed that the jihadists members were armed with various weapons which included, grenades, and explosive “suicide” belts.

It was also reported that there is no indication of civilian casualties during the operation and the military operation’s main objective was to eliminate ISIS leaders and to “disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond.”

The operation, which was conducted in Western Iraq with no clear indication of the precise location of the joint military operation while other reports suggested that the operation was conducted in Anbar province.

However the military operation comes in regards to Baghdad and Washington having been engaged in several months of dialogue over the presence of anti-jihadist coalition forces in Iraq. Several U.S soldiers suffered from possible traumatic brain injuries, and at least one soldier suffered external injuries, the defense officials said.

CENCOM further reported that the “”Iraqi Security Forces continue to further exploit the locations raided,” and further incursion into ISIS territory in Western Iraq is likely expected to continue in coming weeks.

The United States has a strong military presence in Iraq, with a total number of 2,500 troops while another 900 soldiers are stationed in Syria as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State group.

The US forces have carried out multiple retaliatory strikes against these militant forces in both Iraq and Syria. Thursday’s raid comes just a few days after US forces announced that they killed a senior leader of an Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group in Syria.
