John Healey, the British Secretary of Defense on Monday, revealed that the British government expects the stance of the incoming United States President Donald Trump administration toward NATO and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine against Russia to remain unchanged and continue to support Ukraine.

He made this known at a press conference in London, where he expressed his confidence that the Donald Trump government would remain committed to NATO and to supporting Ukraine “for as long as it takes.”

Healey further emphasized that he believes the U.S. commitment to NATO and European security will remain robust under a Trump presidency. He noted the necessity for European nations to enhance their defense spending and take on a greater share of responsibility in this regard.

In response to inquiries about potential decreases in support for Ukraine following Trump’s election victory last week, Healey stated that President Trump acknowledges that nations achieve security through strength, much like NATO alliances. He also dismissed the notion that the president-elect would withdraw the U.S. from NATO, highlighting the importance of the alliance in maintaining stability and preventing further conflict in Europe.

Healey lately has been actively engaged with the British media to discuss topics relating to the fate of NATO under Donald Trump’s new administration.

While the details of Trump’s approach to Ukraine and other issues remain uncertain, he recently had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin who called him to congratulate him on his election victory and urged the Russian president to exercise caution and refrain from escalating the conflict in Ukraine.

Donald Trump has expressed interest in future discussions on how to put an end to the war in Ukraine, emphasizing the significant military presence of the United States army in Europe.

During his campaign, the newly elected president disclosed that he would find a solution to end the war “within a day,” although he did not reveal the details of how this would be achieved.

With the current situation in the war, Russia has increased its military actions, including the mobilization of 10,000 North Korean troops, and has deployed over 2,000 one-way attack drones targeting Ukrainian cities.
