The Russian army conquered Vuhledar after two failed attempts, the town which is considered a powerful Ukrainian stronghold and was heavily fortified before it fell to a third Russian attempt in a year. The Ukrainian president in a bid to salvage the lives of his troops ordered an immediate withdrawal of the Ukrainian forces from the town but was rather too late as they were already surrounded by Russian troops. Viral videos began to circulate in the media of Russian troops hoisting the Russian flag and the Soviet Union’s victory flag on a military observation post and other fallen buildings in Vuhledar. Confirming the video is the Ukrainian media which said it has authenticated the viral video posted by the Russian army. The Ukrainian media also reported that Ukrainian soldiers were trying to fight their way out of the surrounding town in small groups, leaving wounded comrades and equipment behind. The capture of the town of Vuhledar is the most significant achievement of the Russian army since the capture of Avdiivka in February. Russian President Vladimir Putin has yet to make a statement about the Russian victory but Dmitry Peskov, the Russian press secretary has said that the president is waiting for an official report from the defense ministry. He said, “We are waiting for official information from the Ministry of Defence,”. Vulhedar was defended by Ukraine’s 72nd Brigade, which is regarded as one of the toughest Ukrainian fighting units, and is known as “The Black Zaporozhians”.

Seventy people have been confirmed dead by the United Nations after a notorious Haitian gang attacked Pont-Sondé, a very small village in the central Artibonite region located north-west of the capital Port-au-Prince. The notorious gang known as the Gran Grif gang has taken control of large parts of Haiti from the United Nations-controlled areas in a deadly Onslaught that began in June. Prodesq gathered that the deadly gang arrived with automatic rifles and set fire to 45 houses and 34 vehicles before descending on innocent civilians in the village. The leader of the deadly gang Luckson Elan took responsibility for the massacre, saying it was in retaliation for civilians remaining passive while police and vigilante groups killed his soldiers. The Gran Grif gang is described as the most violent gang in Haiti by the United Nations, the gang has 100 members and was accused of setting fire to a police station last January. The United Nations said that over 6000 people have been displaced since the attack began on Thursday and are yet to get the actual number of people who were killed in the deadly attack. Earlier this year the United Nations with the help of 1000 Kenyan police retook some of the strongholds controlled by the notorious gang but has failed to hold on to them as the gang retook these key areas. Garry Conille, the Prime Minister of Haiti took to his X account to express his shock, he said “This odious crime against defenseless women, men, and children is not only an attack against victims but against the entire Haitian nation,”.  He however assured the citizens that additional security forces had been dispatched to quell the gang uprising in the region.

Croatia President And Prime Minister Face Off Over Ukraine

by Admin Oct 5, 2024 Things got more complicated than before between the President of Croatia and his Prime Minister when the president, who is also the Chief Commanding Officer of the Croatian military, withdrew from sending troops to Germany to help train the Ukrainian army . Croatia, which is a member of NATO, becomes the second NATO member to withdraw its military support from Ukraine, joining Hungary from other 32 members of NATO taking part in military operations against Russia. Croatia soldiers are supposed to join other NATO soldiers in Germany to work as instructors for Ukrainian soldiers as part of the alliance’s Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine, NSATU, project. Whereas, President Zoran Milanovic, opted out of such operations stating that he doesn’t want his country drawn into a longtime conflict with Russia. The president took to his Facebook page to explain his decision, he said “Simply, while I am the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief – Croatian soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers will not participate in activities that push Croatia into war,”. He explained that he will not also participate in supporting such operations for a non NATO country that Ukraine is currently not part of NATO membership. Milanovic further noted that  “Everything else is joining the war, which I did not and will not allow. I answer exclusively to the Croatian people, not to Washington and Brussels – it will remain so,”. Andrej Plenkovic, the Prime Minister of Croatia did not welcome the president’s decision and he said “Milanovic participated in the NATO summit and in no way indicated to the allies that he was against it. The level of deception and lies he spreads is unprecedented,”. He further highlighted that “We call on members of Parliament not to agree to follow a policy that is contrary to Croatian interests, to act as if we do not see Russian aggression against Ukraine,”.  Plenkovic urged the Croatian parliament to consider supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia, he added “As the government, we express our great dissatisfaction and call on the members of parliament not to bury their heads in the sand of Milanovic’s presidential campaign,”. He accused the president’s decision as being politically motivated, that Milanovic knows fully that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be present at the summit between countries in Southeast Europe and Ukraine, to be held in Dubrovnik.

78 Dead and Dozens Missing As Boat Capsizes In Eastern Congo

by Admin Oct 5, 2024 Tragedy struck in the Democratic Republic of Congo when a boat carrying 278 passengers capsized in Lake Kivu in the eastern part of the country. The boat was said to be traveling from the town of Minova in Southern Kivu and sank off 100 meters from the shores of Goma at the port of Kituku. Confirming the incident Governor Jean Jacques Purisi said “It’ll take at least three days to get the exact numbers, because not all the bodies have been found yet,”. He said ten people who were rescued have been transported to a local hospital in the city of Goma. The governor further explained that the boat had a maximum capacity of 130 people but doesn’t not understand how it managed to carry a total number of 278 passengers and he is awaiting the final investigation by the local police and maritime authorities. Local authorities said that the rescue efforts continued and the death toll remained unknown for the moment.  Congolese officials have often warned several times against overloading and vowed to punish those violating safety measures for water transportation.  The law has not been enforced in remote areas where most passengers come from, so many people are unable to afford public transport for the few available roads in conflict driven regions of the country. Since the beginning of the conflict between the Congolese Armed Forces and the M23 rebels has made the road transit between the cities of Goma and Minova unsafe and forcing the closure of the roads to trucks transporting food, many local traders have resorted to transport on Lake Kivu which most locals considered safer than road traffic, which is threatened by insecurity. Prodesq gathered that in June, an overloaded boat sank near Kinshasa the capital of the country and 80 passengers lost their lives. While in January, 22 people died on Lake Maî-Ndombe and in April 2023, six people also died and 64 went missing on Lake Kivu.

Israel on Wednesday placed “persona non grata”, on the UN secretary-general, banning him from entering Israel.  Switzerland, the current president of the Security Council, expressed “full support” to Guterres, and “the UN in collaboration with other organizations is currently providing humanitarian aid to all civilians.” The decision by Israel has brought the United Security Council to get behind their Secretary-General, Nicolas de Riviere, France’s diplomat to the UN said Guterres has “the full support and trust of France”. Vassily Nebenzia, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations said “We call on the members of the Security Council and the UN to react to this outrageous act,” he further described the Israeli decision as “unheard” and a “slap” to the face of the United Nation in whole. The only notable exception to support Israel’s decision on the UN Secretary-General is the United States, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the UN envoy said “The United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel”. Antonio Guterres was banned by Israel for not mentioning Iran by name in his statement Tuesday on a missile attack and not “directly condemning” Tehran.

Twin blasts rocked the embassy of Israel in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, on Wednesday morning after Iran’s missile attacks on Israel on Tuesday night. The Danish police said that the explosion was caused by the use of hand grenades and no casualties were recorded at the scene of the blast which was 100m away from the Israeli embassy. Jens Jespersen, the Copenhagen Police Chief Superintendent said that investigations are ongoing and three suspects have been detained since Wednesday afternoon. He said “We can’t say for sure if the embassy has been or not been the target of these explosions … We are also investigating if they have acted alone, on request or together with others,” He hinted that the three suspects were Swedish nationals, two of the perpetrators were arrested on a train at Copenhagen’s main railway station shortly after the incident occurred while the third suspect was arrested somewhere else in the capital. He refused to make any further comment about how the three suspects were connected and if they were related to any terrorist organizations or if the attack was linked to any particular terrorist activity. Jespersen, however, disclosed that the Danish security and intelligence service has begun assisting police with the investigation and assessing the already high security level around locations linked to the Jewish community in Denmark. A Jewish school which is located near the embassy was closed after the blast due to security concerns about the attack on the Jewish community in Denmark in wake of the Israeli war in the Middle East.  Soaring security concerns have been raised by the Jewish community in Denmark as they have been facing various backlash over Israel’s invasion of Gaza and Lebanon. The identities of the perpetrators as being Swedish have raised more questions about the nature of the Swedish authorities in securing the Jewish community in their country as Prodesq gathered that in January, a Stockholm police bomb squad disarmed what investigators called a dangerous object outside the Israeli embassy building in the Swedish capital.

Turkey President Issues Warning to Israel of Stiffer Response For its ground invasion of Lebanon

Turkey President, Recep Erdogan.

Recep Erdogan, the president of Turkey has issued a stern warning against Israel’s ground invasion of Lebanon which began last month. President Erdogan said that the consequences of Israel’s invasion of Lebanon would be severely different from what happened in the invasion of Gaza and the West Bank.  While making this statement at the reopening of Turkey’s parliament after the summer recess, he said  “The consequences of a ground operation in Lebanon will not be similar to (Israel’s) past occupations.”  He added that “Driven by the delusion of ‘promised land’, after Palestine and Lebanon, the Israeli government will set its sights on our (Turkish) homeland,”. He highlighted that the Israeli actions in the region is a deliberate act of state terrorism that is being supported by the western states which would have dire consequences for the entire region and the world at large.  Erdogan pressed the Israeli conquest of invading and occupying neighboring countries in the Middle East as a way of trying to secure their Biblical claims which he pointed out that after Israeli invasion and occupation of Lebanon, the next target would be Turkey. He further stated that “Occupation, terror and aggression are right next to us. We’re not facing a state bound by law, but a horde of killers that thrives on blood and feeds off Occupation.” He urged the Turkish parliament to see the threats of Israel as a sign of disarraying the region and taking over the region as a whole and he firmly believes that an action is necessary to halt the Israeli occupation and aggression against other middle eastern countries.
