by Admin Sep 14, 2024 A military court in Kinshasa the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo has sentenced 37 people to death, which includes three American citizens in their role in the failed coup attempt to topple President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in May. The verdict which was passed on Friday by Freddy Ehume, the president of the court, said “The court pronounces the harshest sentence: the death penalty for criminal association, the death penalty for attack, the death penalty for terrorism,”. The accused, which includes three Americans, a Briton, a Belgian, and a Canadian, also have five days to appeal the verdict. In a statement by Richard Bondo, the counsel to the six foreign defendants, he said “We will challenge this decision on appeal,”. The leader of the coup plotters, Christian Malanga who was a Congolese politician, was gunned down by the Congolese security forces, he was a wealthy businessman, politician, and one-time military captain in the Congolese army and considered himself the “President of New Zaire”. He contested parliamentary elections in 2011 but was arrested and detained for several weeks under former President Joseph Kabila. Two of the security officers were also killed by the coup plotters in the failed attempt. The Human Rights Watch organization has called on the Congolese government to uphold International standards during the course of the trial. In a statement by Lewis Mudge, Central Africa director at Human Rights Watch “Congo and the region have a legacy of coups and attempted coups,” he further added that “The Congolese government needs to treat this crisis as an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to human rights and the rule of law.” Marcel Malanga, the son of the deceased coup leader was sentenced to death on Friday along with his close friend Taylor Thompson, who were football teammates while in High School in Utah.   Thirteen out of the Fifty people were acquitted in the trial, which began in June.

China Warns Germany of Security Risk Pertaining to Taiwan Strait

by Admin Sep 14, 2024 China has issued a direct warning to Germany to desist from exploring the Taiwan Strait water passage on the claim that it is an international water, not a territory of China.  This warning came on Saturday morning after two German vessels passed through the Taiwan Strait on Friday. In a statement issued by the Chinese military through its spokesman Li Xi, he said, “The German side’s behavior increases security risks and sends incorrect signals, Beijing’s troops in the area would resolutely counter all threats and provocations,”. In a statement by the German government, Boris Pistorius, the German Defense Minister, confirmed that two German vessels passed through the Taiwan Strait on Friday, September 13, the frigate Baden-Wuerttemberg and the supply Frankfurt am Main. This is the first time in twenty years that Baden-Wuerttemberg’s voyage, which belongs to the German Navy, has passed through the Taiwan Strait which China considered to be part of its territory. The One China Policy is something that is also recognized by Germany so it became an act of voluntary violation of China’s territory when the German vessels sailed through without consulting the Chinese military. The Taiwan government has declared that the Taiwan Strait is an international waters, countering the Chinese claim over the Island.  United States vessels have been making use of the straits in a bid to taunt the Chinese government since the US government declared its support for Taiwan’s sovereignty from China.

Israeli Forces Recover Six Bodies of Israeli Hostages From Gaza.

by Admin Sep 2, 2024 The Israel Defense Forces have revealed that they have recovered bodies of six civilian hostages from Hamas haven in Gaza Strip on Saturday. This was reported in a statement released by the Israel Defense Force, which said that they found the bodies in a tunnel in the Rafah area of southern Gaza. Israeli defense spokesman Rear Adm Daniel Haga confirmed the reports and revealed the names of the dead hostages as Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Master Sgt Ori Danino. He revealed that the hostages were “brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before we reached them”. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister has announced that Israel would not rest until those responsible for their killing are brought to justice even though one of the senior Hamas officials, Izzat al-Rishq, has insisted that Israel should be blamed for the deaths of the Israeli hostages as it has refused to sign a ceasefire deal. In a statement issued by the Israeli prime minister, he said his government was willing  to achieve a deal to secure the release of those remaining in captivity and protect the country’s security and also made it clear that whoever kills hostages does not want a ceasefire deal to happen. A statement has been issued by The Hostages Families Forum, a group representing the families of the hostages that were abducted by Hamas militants on October 7 attack on Israel, the group demanded that Israel prime minister should address the nation and also take responsibility for the deaths of the hostages for failing to protect the hostages by delaying the ceasefire agreement. The group further called for a boycott and demanded to bring the nation to a standstill on Sunday, pleading with the Israeli public to join protests in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and elsewhere in Israel to call for a hostage exchange deal. The group said “murdered in the last few days, after surviving almost 11 months of abuse, torture, and starvation in Hamas captivity”. The group’s call for boycotts and strike action has been supported by Yair Lapid, who is one of Israel’s most prominent opposition politicians, he said “He prefers saving the coalition with [Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich] and [National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir], rather than saving our children’s lives. This blood is on their heads”. Israeli President Isaac Herzog said the “heart of an entire nation is shattered to pieces with the news” of their killing. “On behalf of the State of Israel, I embrace their families with all my heart, and apologize for failing to bring them home safely,” he added.

Israel Launches Largest Assault In West Bank of Jenin, Tubas and Tulkarem In 20 Years

by Admin  Aug 29, 2024 The Israeli forces on Wednesday launched one of the biggest assault raids in the occupied territory of the West Bank of Jenin City, Tulkarem, and Tubas, the biggest since the occupation of the territory 20 years ago.  The assault which included a large scale of airstrikes and dangerous raids backed by fighter jets, drones, bulldozers, and hundreds of foot soldiers led to the sealing of the city of Jenin completely by the Israeli forces which left ten Palestinians dead.  Israel Foreign Minister Israel Katz has described the invasion as a whole level of a full-fledged war with Hamas which will not be anywhere near what was done in the Gaza strip. Katz said the Israeli forces would completely implement the same tactics used in the war-affected areas of Palestine, especially in the West Bank territory.  Katz in his statement accused Iran of trying to establish “an eastern terrorist front” against Israel in the West Bank and accused the former Persian empire of funding and arming militants and smuggling weapons from Jordan. The Israeli forces have conducted daily raids on the West Bank territory since the Hamas attack on October 7 and a retaliatory response from the Israeli forces which is still currently going on in Gaza and has developed into a full-blown war.  The simultaneous assault of the West Bank of Jenin City, Tulkarem, and Tubas was the biggest the Israelites have ever conducted in twenty years when they launched Operation Defense Shield which was executed during the Second Intifada since they officially invaded the West Bank territory in 1967.  The International Court of Justice (ICJ) Hague, last month issued a statement that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, including the West Bank, breached international law.  In a joint statement released by the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Security Agency (also known as the Sin Bet), and the Israel Police, launched a counter-terrorism operation to eliminate the threats of armed militias from the air and ground assault, and three militants who were seen as a threat to the nation of Israel were eliminated last night through airstrikes in the city of Jenin, while two were killed in the city of Tulkarem, the statement also revealed that several wanted suspects have been apprehended since the operation began yesterday. Palestinian health authorities have disclosed that more than 40,000 people have been killed in the besieged Gaza strip since Israel launched its offensive after the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks. Hamas’ assaults in southern Israel killed 1,200 people and led to 250 other hostages being taken over 50 of these Israeli hostages have been killed by Hamas and failed Israeli rescue missions, while one 50-year-old man who was part of the captured hostages by Hamas was rescued earlier this week by the Israeli forces in Gaza strip.

UAE Halts Purchase of 80 Fighter Jets from France

by Admin Aug 28, 2024 The United Arab Emirates has halted its contract acquisition of 80 fighter jets from France which is worth $17 billion dollars and it is currently weighing the option of blocking military-technical cooperation between the two countries. This decision comes after the arrest of the Telegram owner, Pavel Duro on Sunday night at Paris’s Le Bourget airport in Paris after the tech mogul flew back from Azerbaijan.  United Arab Emirates foreign minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan has called on France to provide the telegram president access to all necessary consular services, this was said in a statement issued on Tuesday. “The Emirates are closely following the case of Emirati citizen Pavel Durov, founder of the Telegram social network, who was detained by the French authorities at Le Bourget airport. And they conveyed a demand to the French government to urgently provide it with all the necessary consular services,”  the statement further said that  “Caring for citizens, preserving their interests, following up on their affairs, and providing them with all aspects of care is a top priority for the UAE.”  The 39 years old billionaire has been charged with crimes ranging from drug trafficking, apology for terrorism, and cyberbullying, Pavel is also a citizen of France, Russia, and the Caribbean island nation of St Kitts and Nevis. He is currently at the French court to face trials to determine whether he will be remanded in prison or will be set free and placed under restricted movement within France.

French Police Hands Over Telegram Owner, Pavel Duro to France Court.

by Admin Aug 28, 2024 The French police have handed the Telegram president, Pavel Duro to the French court, after withholding the Russia-UAE citizen in detention for three days. The handover was done earlier today by the French police after they arrested the Telegram owner at Paris’s Le Bourget airport on Sunday night after Pavel got back from Azerbaijan. The arrest was led by Investigators from France’s National Anti-Fraud Office, with a search warrant from OFMIN, an investigative agency that fights child sexual exploitation in France, this was revealed by France News Agency. The 39-year-old billionaire was charged with multiple offenses: terrorism, drugs, complicity, fraud, money laundering, receiving stolen goods, and pedo criminal contents. Pavel, who rarely travels around Europe due to situations like this, landed in France to refuel his private jet before he was arrested by the French authorities. Pavel, who was under pre-trial detention for the last three days after his arrest on Sunday, will now face France’s judicial system which will now determine if the tech billionaire will be remanded in prison or will be set free and possibly under judicial control with restrictions on his movements. Prodesq news agency learned that a confidential investigation team was set up on the 8th of July to probe 12 criminal charges that were set against the Telegram owner.  The 39-year-old tech mogul was a Russian citizen until 10 years ago when he had issues with the Russian government over his platform which has 900 million users, Pavel is now a citizen of the United Arab Emirates and also a citizen of France and has always been a personality who keeps a low profile and rarely grants an interview, his last known interview was in Dubai office with American journalist Tucker Carlson.  The telegram president who is currently worth $15.5 billion has been a frequent visitor of French President, Emmanuel Macron who has come out publicly to denounce that the arrest of Pavel has nothing to do with political ties which he referred to as “false information” in his post on his personal X account, Macron said Durov’s arrest was “in no way a political decision” and it was “up to the judges to rule”. Russia has released a statement through the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying the charges were very serious and thus needed “no less serious evidence”. He further referred to the arrest of Pavel as an act of intimidation from the French government  “Otherwise this would be a direct attempt to restrict freedom of communication, and, I might even say, directly intimidate the head of a large company,” he said. The UAE has also issued a statement saying it is closely monitoring the situation and is making all efforts to establish a communication line with Pavel.
