Things got heated up again with the announcement of the arrest of Braga Netto Brazil’s former minister of defense for his alleged involvement in the 2022 coup attempt against President Lula Da Silva after President Bolsonaro lost the presidential election in 2022.
Brazilian police arrested Braga Netto on Saturday, a very close ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro. The police said, “People who would be obstructing… Braga Netto was arrested in the operation.”
Braga Netto was President Boslsonaro’s running mate in the 2022 presidential election, which they lost to President Lula.
The police further disclosed that the investigation included close allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro who were considered complicit in the failed attempted coup against President Lula.
The investigation found that the former president, the former defense minister, and other close allies of the president in his administration tried to stop President Lula Da Silva’s inauguration after the 2022 presidential election.
Paulo Gonet, the attorney general of Brazil said he has been going through the 884-page report that was submitted by the police against former President Jaie Bolsonaro and the 36 others named as co-conspirators.
The 884-page report is drawn from a two-year thorough investigation carried out by the police. The police authorities are urging Attorney General Gonet to indict the former president and the 36 other accomplices involved in the failed coup attempt to stop the inauguration of President Lula and overthrow a democratic government.
The police added that “The then-President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, actively participated in the creation of the coup plan, being directly involved in the drafting of documents and strategies to remain in power, even after the electoral defeat”.
The report further disclosed that former president Jair Boslnaro, his vice president, and a supreme court judge were aware of an assassination plot to kill President Lula Da Silva before the inauguration day.
The coup was hatched at the residence of the former defense minister Braga Netto.
