Ukraine carried out overnight airstrikes on Russia’s military airfield and oil depots in the Azoz Sea region using the United States ATAMAC-S missiles for the third time this year since President Biden gave Ukraine the green light to attack Russian territory with United States missiles.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the incident, saying that a Pantsir missile defense system shot down two of the missiles fired by Ukraine and the rest were destroyed by electronic warfare.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, it said “On the morning of December 11, 2024, the Kyiv regime launched a missile strike with Western precision weapons at the Taganrog military airfield in the Rostov region.”

The statement further stated that “This attack by Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered and appropriate measures will be taken.”

The Russian government has threatened to retaliate against Ukraine with utmost measures for the use of United States missiles to attack its territory.

We can recall that on Nov 21 the Russian government retaliated against Ukraine by using a newly created hypersonic ballistic missile called “Oreshnik” to strike Ukrainian territory after the Ukrainian military used  United States ATAMAC-S missiles to attack Russian territory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the introduction of the new hypersonic ballistic missile is a direct response to the United States’ threat of allowing Ukraine to use its missiles to attack deep into Russian territory.

However, United States officials have ruled out that the Russian new hypersonic ballistic missiles would not change the outcome of the war against Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin said that the United States and its Western allies are interested in the escalation of the conflict rather than looking for a diplomatic alternative to de-escalate the war and Russia is willing to take all possible measures to ensure a total Russian victory in Ukraine.

As the war rages on into what most experts consider to be the final and most dangerous phase the world looks towards the newly elected president of the United States, Donald Trump to find a way to quench the tension in the war.

However, President Trump has threatened that he will ensure that the United States will cease being a member of NATO. In his recent interview with NBCS, the newly elected president said he would reduce the United States donations to Ukraine.
